One for all; All for one. Kindness and generosity are everywhere.

Residents of Dallas-Fort Worth probably all know about JPS hospital. Fort Worth is one of the hard-hit areas in Texas and JPS hospital took in a lot of Covid-19 patients but for some reason it didn’t receive the same media coverage or donations as hospitals of similar size such as Parkland. They only received donations from a few organizations including DFW Fudan Alumni Association and New Life Gospel Church so there was an acute shortage of PPE for frontline workers.

Fudan Alumni decided to focus on JPS hospital. They previously donated medical supplies to the ICU which helped with their urgent needs. Now along with Association of Chinese Professionals Foundation DFW (ACP Foundation) and the editorial board of Moshang US, they procured and donated to JPS 650 KN95 masks, 3200 pairs of gloves, 20 gowns and 150 face shields.

Since DFW Fudan Alumni Association started collecting donations in the first week of March, they received $6258 from alumni and other friends in less than 2 month. After several purchases and donations, they still had $2000 left. The procurement team members Mr. Shen, Ms. Huo, Mr. Wang, Ms. Zhang and Mr. Hu, spent countless hours sourcing materials but found it difficult to procure quality PPE at the right price point.

Luckily Fudan Alumna Ms. Han, a volunteer journalist is also a volunteer at ACP and she learned that ACP happened to have some quality PPE on hand. So Fudan team quickly decided to donate $2000 to ACP for the PPE and asked to send the KN95 masks to JPS hospital.

The editorial board of Moshang US, a news magazine focused on objective and timely reports of current affairs in the US which published the “Diary of Lanlan — New Yorkers During the Pandemic”, fully supported Fudan Alumni’s donation efforts.

Ms. Liu, editor in chief, Fudan Alumni, kept a hotline communication with the logistics team of the Alumni Association from the beginning of the pandemic, provided valuable information and donated $1000 to the hospital fund of Fudan North Texas Alumni Association. 20% of this came from an enthusiastic reader in China, the rest came from the editorial board and authors of Moshang US.

All in all, the editorial board and supporters of MoshangUS, lead by the lead writer Luo Xin, class of 1988 of Peking University, donated $15000 in supplies and monetary donation. Besides the Fudan efforts mentioned above, the list goes on.

When Covid-19 started to spread in the US in March, Moshang US, with the help of Peking University Class of 1988 Alumni Association, acted quickly. They procured 1000 KN95 masks from Chengdu and donated to Saddle Brook, NJ police department, and three hospitals in NJ, MD and PA. Funds for this initial donation mainly came from Liu Xin, famed host of CCTV and the advertisement income of Moshang official account.

In Mid-April, editorial board of Moshang donated 120 3M 1860 N95 masks to University of North Carolina hospital. At that time, the price of this model has jumped to $8 each and it took great efforts to source from overseas. Funds for this donation mainly came from the advertisement income of Moshang official account and authors of Moshang US. UNC hospital is still in need of PPE as N95 masks were being re-used by the medical staff. It is our hope to donate more to them.

Luo Xin, the lead writer donated his royalties to procure 200 3M 1860 N95 masks and donated to Holy Name Hospital in New Jersey.

During this time, many readers exhausted all means to ship supplies to the US, including 8382 masks from readers in Chengdu and Changsha, two cities alone. Luo Xin distributed all these masks to government agencies, police departments, nursing homes and post offices in various locations, as well as Native American reservations in New Mexico and South Dakota. 14 protective gowns donated by our readers were sent to Long Island hospital in NY.

Many readers donated money and asked us to contribute to the efforts to fight Covid-19 on their behalf. At the end of April, Luo Xin distributed $2500 to 3 different charities. We are still trying to decide the recipient for another $1000, part of which will be donated to Native American Reservations.

We thank Luo Xin for the countless hours and energy he spent on the donation efforts on behalf of Moshang US; we thank readers in China, US and all over the word for your kindness, generosity and trust in us.

On April 30, the last day before Texas lifted its stay at home order, the donated medical supplies were delivered to JPS hospital. It was a beautiful day in DFW. Returning to work will pose great challenges to this populous metropolitan area and put the frontline medical staff under great pressure. They are heroes.

One for all; All for one. Kindness and generosity are everywhere.
